9th International Academic Conference on Places and Technologies

Keeping up with technologies to achieve liveability emphasising human-centered design

Pécs, 8th to 9th July 2024

About the conference

The conference examines the formation and presentation of knowledge on technologies and the environment, as well as ethical considerations and potential risks, developing solutions, expertise, and discussions with respect to developing concepts and thought in relation with aspect of liveability

Liveability is a topic that is getting increasingly important as the number of humans on the globe continues to increase. The rapid urbanisation phenomenon necessitates that various possibilities for affordable types of living and challenges of the liveable urban environment are themes that should be widely discussed with an interdisciplinary approach. The aim of the Places and Technologies 2024 conference is to discuss methodologies and urban, architectural, or structural design ideas that can help increase the liveability of the built environment.

As the liveability of a place is directly influenced by its inhabitants' needs, desires, and expectations, designers must consider the role humans play in the design process and the extent of that role. The common and agreed-upon guiding principles like accessibility, equity, safety, comfort, available services, walkability, transit, and participation among others that give substance to the concept of liveability should govern the approach of urban designers and architects in the design of livable urban areas. The more importance placed on studying how humans interact with the built environment will facilitate efforts made to create livable urban environments. By using appropriate technologies and with a multidisciplinary approach, cities and towns in their unique contexts can be ensured to implement strategies to provide liveable environments for their current and future inhabitants. Consequently, the conference program and research are based on the knowledge of several academic disciplines: architecture, engineering and other technical sciences, art, humanities, and social sciences.
